Hypertension is the medical term used to describe the chronic cardiac condition in which blood pressure in the arteries is elevated. Factors like a sedentary lifestyle, obesity, smoking, alcohol consumption, potassium deficiency and old age are associated with hypertension. Hypertension can cause complications like artery damage, heart failure, kidney failure, dementia and loss of vision.
